1st GLYCOBIOTECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

»Glycomedicine: immunotolerance, inflammation and cancer«

May 15, 2019 I 13:00 – 18:00 I Kaiserin Friedrich-Haus, Robert-Koch-Platz 7, 10115 Berlin

The Glycobiotechnology Symposium brings together experts from biotechnology and medicine to share the latest insights, exchange new ideas and discuss current challenges in the multidisciplinary field of glycobiotechnology.

Importance and chances of glycobiotechnology

Glycobiotechnology* is an area of increasing relevance for research and development and potential in diverse disciplines, such as chemistry, biology and medicine. An exchange forum – the Glycobiotechnology Symposium – is offered in order to bundle competencies and exploit synergies.

Join the very first edition of the Glycobiotechnology Symposium focusing on the glyco-medical topics immunotolerance, inflammation, and cancer!

* Glycobiology and Glycobiotechnology – an expanding field in research and development
Glycosylation represents one of the most common kinds of posttranslational modification and is a key determinant of protein function. Changes in the glycosylation pattern of specific proteins may be recognized as disease markers and used in diagnosis and/or therapy.Today it is known that glycosylations can lead to altered cell signaling; anomalies in protein glycosylation are a frequently observed characteristic of cancer. In addition, congenital glycosylation disorders underline the importance of posttranslational modifications.
